    微软Windows Installer作为Win2K/WinXP/WinVista的组件之一，是专门用来管理和配置软件服务的工具。在Win95、Win98、WinMe与WinNT4.0下，作为额外的产品提供，允许用户有效地安装与配置软件产品与应用程序。新的Installer提供给软件产品新的特性，例如使用命令行安装产品、增加了用户的可定制性。

    Windows Installer 4.5 只是对 Windows Installer 4.0 做了略微更新。Windows Installer 4.0 是在 2006 年 11 月发布的。Windows Installer 4.5 包含新增和改进的功能，解决了 Windows Installer 4.0 中存在的一些问题。所有可以应用到 Windows Installer 4.0、Windows Installer 3.x 和 Windows Installer 2.0 的数据包和更新都在 Windows Installer 4.5 中得到完全支持。

    更新替换项复原

    此功能允许您更正在替换期间对 FeatureComponent 表所做的更改。

    Windows Installer 4.5 中已解决的问题：

    Windows Installer 4.5 解决了早期版本的 Windows Installer 中存在的以下问题：

    Windows Installer 服务中缺少 SeBackupPrivilege 用户权限。缺少此权限会阻止执行任何需要此用户权限的自定义操作。

    在 Windows Vista 中，InstallValidate 操作中一些区分大小写的服务名称比较导致出现不必要的消息：“files in use”（文件正在使用中）。

    卸载添加了新组件的更新程序后，该组件也会被卸载。即使其他产品正在共享此组件时也不例外。
