Lightpollutionisthestraylightthatcomesfromstreetlights, billboardsigns, buildings, parkinglots, sportsarenasandanyothersourceofilluminationthatisreflectedordirectedintotheatmosphere. Lightpollutionismadeworsewithairpollution, asthesmallparticlesthatfloatintheairservetoscatterandreflectthelight,compoundingtheproblem. Theeffectoflightpollutionistoreducethecontrast, andthereforethevisibilityofdimmerobjectsinthenightsky, whichaffectsprofessional, aswellasamateurastronomers. Lightpollutionhasobscuredourviewofconstellations, meteorshowers, andeventheplanets.
