WeldonSpring, Missouri, forexample, wasthesiteofabombfactoryduringWorldWar Ⅱ. Thefactorywasdestroyedafterthewar. butpoisonouschemicalsremainedontheground. Veryslowly, thesechemicalsdrippeddownthroughthegroundandintotheaquifer. Oncetheydid, however, thewaterformthataquiferwasnolongerdrinkable.
